The Scariest Moment
“The scariest moment is always just before you start.”
― Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
Stephen King was correct. I thought that once I started this blog, started telling people it was out there, that I would have the motivation to post regularly. Well motivation doesn’t always align with time, and time doesn’t always align with the proper mindset… I’ve started several posts only to abandon them. Why? Because I’m I big chicken, that’s why. I fear putting my writing out in the world for people to read – even something as simple as a blog post. Sigh…
However, just because I don’t share my writing doesn’t mean that I don’t write. I’ve been finding a few minutes here and there – usually late at night, not my most creative time – to work on Death in the Afternoon, what I hope will be the first in the Modern Speakeasy Mysteries. I’ve really fallen for the main characters, Zach and Ellie. My fictitious town of Paradise Springs, CA is someplace I’d like to visit on a regular basis – which will come in handy if this does become a series. Ellie’s cat, Hemingway, is a great foil for all the hidden passageways and secrets of Pierce House. Plus, he seems to turn up at exactly the right moment – uncanny ability that.
One of these days I’ll figure it out. I’ll keep writing until the book is finished, then I’ll edit until that part is done, and we’ll just see where it all goes. Until then I’ll do my best to keep adding bits and pieces to this website. I think this is actually helping me stay connected writing and the mystery community. And, once I post this, the seal is broken. Now, that wasn’t so hard, was it?
